Share the Land

My webhost is currently providing more space than all of my hard drives combined and more bandwidth than this site could use up in 2 years.

So who wants some free music?

EDIT: Updated. Now with 20% more fun. (sorted by date)

The username is “guest” and the password is something Mick Jagger can’t get (one word).

The selection is pretty random at the moment. I’m open to requests for songs.

Runnin’ With the Devil

If you hadn’t already noticed that my blog posts are titled with song names, you may wish to sit down. This may come as a shock.
I’m using song names as the titles to my blog posts.

I’m well aware of the fact that titles are important in SEO and that not accurately describing the content can hurt search engine rankings. I don’t care.

Despite this, a google search for Hand Me Down World shows one of my articles in the top 10. Ok, so it’s near the bottom… but I would have expected my site to be number 1,000,000, not number 10. Edit: 12 now..

My hypothesis is that this is a direct result of making a deal with the devil. That’s right, simply submitting my article to digg catapulted my site to the google top 10 for that title. The article wasn’t even popular.

The simple fact that it was on digg somehow convinced google that it was important.
Was it just luck or does digg seriously affect search rankings?

I’m submitting this article to digg to find out.

Hand Me Down World

Why I’m sick and tired of the global warming bandwagon:

So I get on the bus in the morning; the “diesel powered” or “biofuel powered” bus. I sit down under the “help the planet by buying a U-Pass” ad. I grab a paper, and have to skip over the “save the environment” articles.

If you’ve been alive and even semi-conscious any time in the past year, you may have noticed that everyone is jumping on the global warming bandwagon. Gas companies, public transit companies, car companies, electronics companies have all launched eco-advertisements left, right, and centre. People who have no business with the environment whatsoever have started associating themselves with the “green” movement. That’s right, all your favourite hollywood stars have declared their support for the environment brigade. The set of the show “24″ has announced that it will try to reduce it’s emissions by the end of next year. Seriously.

I can’t take it any more. Every time I hear about another “green initiative” I want to curse aloud, or at least under my breath for a good five minutes. Why, you ask? I know it’s all bullshit. The car company doesn’t give a fuck about the environment. They just want to make you feel good that you’re doing something for the planet meanwhile coughing up way too much money for that new Prius. I don’t believe for a second that the oil companies actually care about their pollution.

What bothers me the most though, is the fact that “global warming” has been around since I was old enough to remember and that only recently everyone is panicking about it. Global warming faded into the background for decades, then Al Gore puts out a documentary and suddenly it’s cool to be green. Never mind the fact that Captain Planet was saving the Earth while Al Gore was still inventing the internet.

I hope I haven’t made myself out to be some kind of “true environmentalist” because that’s definitely not the case. If anything, I’m pretty apathetic about the whole issue.

I’m just sick and tired of hearing about it 10 times a day.
